The Role

Curate a transporting guest experience

  • Follow and enforce systems to ensure consistency in product and service
  • Build rapport and establish repeat guests from inside and outside the direct community
  • Perform guest quality checks and recoveries when necessary

Create a supportive, safe and growth-oriented work environment

  • Foster an environment of “happy people making people happy”
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings with immediate reporting team members
  • Create succession planning within the café business
  • Audit team member performances and give in the moment feedback
  • Work safely in accordance with Health & Safety Act
  • Hold regular training meetings to consistently develop knowledge and skills of team members

Manage daily café operations

  • Perform functional senior barista duties
  • Manage café preventative maintenance & repair and maintenance work
  • Ensure café team is scheduled to maintain optimal profit margins
  • Conduct Inventory counts and reporting into GM & order products as needed to par
  • Inspect and sign for incoming orders; checking quality of products or errors
  • Open/Close cafe in accordance with daily checklists
  • Follow and enforce company policies and procedures
  • Cash handling & reconciliation – balance tills, provide due-backs
  • Management of our coffee membership program and flex workspace
  • Maintain accurate and clean handoff of the business into lunch/dinner services

Continually develop management skills

  • Ongoing development of product knowledge
  • Use strategic thinking when collaborating with GM on new systems and processes
  • Keeping up to date with industry trends & competitive analysis

Support Local Gusto Gives Back Initiatives

  • Hold a leadership seat within the GGB committee.
  • Support senior leadership on ideation and connecting ZUZU to specific initiatives
  • Coordinate and manage on-site events
  • Work with community leaders on engagement and growth on ongoing initiatives

Who You Are

The right person for this role has a strong hospitality leadership background and prioritizes both guest and team member experience. The ideal candidate is equal parts people and process-driven with an aptitude for creating efficiencies at all levels of the business.

Preference will be given to those who:

  • Previous high volume, quality driven coffee/espresso experience
  • Proficient in café or QSR style of service and operations
  • High level of coffee and tea knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels of an organization
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial and innovative thinker
  • Valid First Aid, Smart Serve, WHMIS Certification
  • Passionate, positive, and approachable
