CRAFT Program

As partners in the Regent Park revitalization, Daniels and TCHC participate in a local employment initiative that emphasize the creation of career path opportunities in the construction trades for local youth.

This program, named “CRAFT” is a 14-week intensive construction pre-apprenticeship program funded by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development with additional funding support from Daniels, TCHC and the YMCA of Greater Toronto. The program is a partnership between Daniels, TCHC, the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades (CCAT), Carpenters’ Local 27, and the YMCA.

Program participants are paid for the 14-week program which includes time in class, at the CCAT training facility and on-site with trade contractors who work with Daniels. While CCAT and Carpenters’ Local 27 are program partners, there are no restrictions with respect to which trade disciplines participants can be placed in. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be eligible for an Apprenticeship Agreement with Carpenters’ Local 27, however, they may continue to work with the trade contractor and seek other union affiliation, if mutually agreed upon by the contractor and participant.
